Swimming is a highly competitive sport, and we know that few of the athletes who put on a racing swimsuit and hop into the water will ever be the next Missy Franklin or Michael Phelps. This doesn't mean, however, that you can't at least have a taste of the training experience that America's elite swimmers have the opportunity to go through.
For folks who want a bit of the elite experience, consider attending the USA Swimming Foundation's Fantasy Camps for adult and youth swimmers. Attendees will spend a few days at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs where they will live and train like the best athletes in the nation. The campus's Aquatic Center is considered by many to be the best training facility in the world. It contains a 50- and 25-meter pool with multiple training aids.
Both the adult and youth camps are led by the best coaches and swimmers in the world, including Bruce Gemmell, David Marsh, Nathan Adrian and Anthony Ervin.
This year, the adult camp will be held October 9-12, while the youth camp will take place the following weekend, October 17-19.
In an interview with USASwimming.org, 2013 fantasy camp attendee Alex Blavatnik said making the trip to Colorado Springs was an unforgettable experience.
"Just working on technique with Coach David Marsh for three days, arguably the top coach in the world right now, is priceless," Blavatnik told the website. "Add to that meeting, casually hanging and swimming with and learning from five legendary U.S. Olympic champs in the USA Olympic Training Center environment was beyond any expectations. I feel re-energized, faster and smarter in the pool already."
Are you ready to improve your skills in the pool? Maybe a fantasy camp is right for you!
