  • Don't hold your breath: Although this might seem counterintuitive when you are underwater, the truth is that you should not hold your breath while swimming. Your body will be getting plenty of oxygen, which will make you a better swimmer.
  • Keep your spine aligned: When you are moving through the water, your face should be pointed directly at the bottom of the pool or ocean with the waterline at the center of your head. If it appears as if you are gliding sideways through the water, your body is in perfect swimming formation.
  • Relax: Even if you are swimming competitively, your attitude will make all the difference in the world. Simply focus on what you are doing and do not worry about whatever else is going on around you. Being distracted will make you a careless swimmer.
